| Sanibel is one of the unique barrier islands of the world, having
an east-west orientation when most islands are north south. Therefore, the
island is blessed with world renowned sandy beaches and an abundance of shells. On
Sanibel pets are welcomed at the beaches, but not on Captiva. There are a
few rules, however, to keep the beaches pristine. Your pets must be
leashed at all times and should be cleaned up after. Alcoholic beverages
are prohibited November through May. No open fires and no collecting of
live shells. Just down from Captiva's beach is
YOLO Watersports.
YOLO offers many activities for all ages and will be one of the
many memorable times you'll experience here on the islands.

By bike is the best way to tour the island. There are 25 miles of paved
bike paths that take you almost anywhere you want to go! They lead to
shops, restaurants, points of interest, wildlife centers and beaches. They
also meander beneath shady trees, across wooden bridges, through friendly
neighborhoods and along quiet waterways. Many island resorts have bikes
for their guests to use. In addition, there are also numerous public bike
rental facilities on both islands where you can rent bikes, helmets and
kiddy trailers. Jim's
Rentals on Captiva can deliver a bike to your resort at no charge to
you. *Please note: Bikes are not allowed on the beaches and
Florida law requires that bike riders under age 16 must wear helmets at
all times. Click here to view the Bike Paths. |

Beachview:
This course sets on Sanibel Island which is three miles off
shore and can only be reached by a causeway. The back nine has most
of the water that comes into play. An outstanding feature of the course is
the abundance of wildlife. There are approximately 300 species of birds
and alligators that can be observed.
Dunes: Mark McCumber redesigned this 9 hole course into a
formidable eighteen hole course. There is water that comes into play on
every hole. Begin with some "test drives" on The Dunes
aqua driving range, and putt around one of the two practice greens. Then
jump aboard a top of the line golf cart and tee off for a golfing
experience equal to none where wild critters are spectators and every hole
flexes your skills! The Dunes back nine is part of a wildlife
preserve sanctioned by the Audubon Cooperative Society.
Sanctuary: This is a narrow course with typical Florida flat terrain
with some mounding. There are over thirty sand bunkers spread throughout
the course, and the water hazards come into play on sixteen holes. The
medium sized greens have average speed and are undulating. As the starting
hole for The Sanctuary, hole one is a dogleg left, par 4 and
sets the stage for a truly unique golf experience. Tall trees and wetlands
guard the dogleg area and a large sand trap skirts the left side of the
green. This course's signature hole is #4, a 197 yard, par 3, with a
spectacular view of the Gulf of Mexico! |

| The Sanibel Causeway, the fishing pier on the bayside of
the Lighthouse, and Blind Pass Bridge are just a few of the many popular
spots to fish on Sanibel & Captiva. From light-tackle to deep sea
fishing the opportunities are endless. There are also tour
boats and charter guides that head for the upper islands for fishing as
well as shelling. Local guides are particularly helpful when it
comes to fishing. They know the habits, feeding patterns, and hiding
places of the area fish. Most residents and visitors must purchase a
license when fishing in salt or fresh water and they can be had in various
places on the Island including The Bait Box on Periwinkle Way, Bailey's
Center at the corner of Tarpon Bay Road, and Jensen's Marina. |
